About Us
In 1845, John Ewing, a blacksmith, started a sole proprietorship. John Ewing & Co. offered blacksmithing, horseshoeing and wagon wheel repairs. The business, located on Dalhousie Street in Toronto, was sold to Mr. George Armour Myles shortly after the turn of the century. Mr. Myles, with the help of his two sons, grew the business and added mobile welding services to their operation. As business demands grew, John Ewing & Co. added the installation, repair and field welding of hand rails, emergency fire escapes, flagpoles, and metal fences, as well as field welding of steel pilings, structural steel, and steel bridges.
1950’s
Soon the business outgrew the Dalhousie Street location and the brothers moved the business, first to Thora Avenue and then to Kennedy Road. The Kennedy Road shop was expanded a number of times to accommodate a growing heavy steel fabrication division. During this period, they opened a separate location on Chisholm Court to house their flagpole operation. Additionally, a Buffalo, New York location was added, Ewing International Corp. Through the years, the brothers were joined by their sons.
In the early 2000’s, the business relocated to its current location on Hopkins Street in Whitby and a new traffic and lighting products division was added. Ewing Traffic and Lighting Products supplies traffic poles and traffic arms to the roadway industry. In true family tradition, the fourth generation has joined the Ewing Group of companies. Today, the Ewing Group of Companies is made up of the following divisions:
- Ewing Flagpole Co. Inc.,
- Ewing Traffic and Lighting Products,
- Ewing International Corp.,
We look forward to the opportunity to work with you on your next project.
